'Quintus Hopper of Nevada' series: Captain Wells and his men of Company D were tasked with teaching the Northern Paiute a lesson - they massacred everyone at Mud Lake - then spun lies.
Hi Barbara - only heard about it, will watch it, for sure. One reason for my novel was that the power of stories is most often, in the hands of the victors. In the case of that near-countless tragic events perpetrated against American Indians, for the longest time, their stories were barely heard as white newspapers told the stories white readers wanted. Luckily, little by little, history has been revisited and more and more of the truth comes to light (even if it is still almost entirely and willfully ignored by white America). I've read a great deal for this novel, it was research that was, consistently, maddening because of the sheer cruelty displayed by white men at ever step. Possibly the best collection of stories that recover the voices of American Indians and set the record straight is the book by Dee Brown - "BURY MY HEART AT WOUNDED KNEE" ... great book, tough to read - should be required reading at every American school.
Daniel have you seen the series, ‘The English’ about the cruelty towards the native Americans at that time. It’s really good.
