With a look at the excellent casting suggestions, this is it for 'The Coffee Trader' Substack ... for now!
As promised, in this final Coffee Trader post, a look at the excellent casting suggestions at the time. Dominique Cooper, Felicity Jones, Diane Kruger, Ben Kingsley and Andy Garcia among them!
In this Substack I’ve recounted the journey of my film adaptation of The Coffee Trader - an epic undertaking that delivered a great script about a forbidden Jewish love story in 1650 Amsterdam in a world of double crosses, hidden agendas, murder, excommunication - and coffee, of course!
To catch up on everything that’s unfolded - from the idea of adaptations, to writing the proposal, to getting the gig and then the researching and the work on and delivery of several drafts (you’ll find the first and polished final draft in this Substack, too) - here are all the posts.
As mentioned in the previous article, the project has now been lingering in development hell for the past fifteen years now. It’s been pitched and pushed and the finances never came together. Casting Director Leo Davis had been attached to the project, and the package that was sent around (with synopsis, director’s statement, shooting locations, etc.), offered some amazing actor suggestions for the film - you’ll find them here:
Well, that’s it for now. I’m not holding my breath, waiting for this project to be realized. But I’m a writer and, as such, I’ll also always remain a dreamer in world of the ever-present WHAT IF. Who knows, maybe one fine day someone will come across this Substack, discover the world of The Coffee Trader, and pick up from where we left off. I’d love it, of course, but like I said I won’t be waiting for it to happen. I prefer being deep in a next and a next story. And should serendipity ever put in appearance, well, wouldn’t that be nice!
Cheers!
